The awards offer multiple prizes in eight different categories, with the Brand Commercial and Retail Website category focusing on the website’s overall design, impact, and user experience, among other things. CellCgirl won the silver pixel in this coveted category.

Launched in September 2018, The CellCgirl website is an extension of Cell C’s flagship CSI initiative, Take A Girl Child to Work Day. The website was created to give the annual project longevity by providing girls between the ages of 14 and 24, with a platform where they can access free information, study tools and advice on a daily basis, wherever they are.

The CellCgirl website, caters to four sets of users - high schoolers, tertiary students, first time workers and young entrepreneurs. It offers users useful features like a Career Interest Test, a CV Builder, downloadable past exam papers and study resources, and a list of available bursaries and internships. The website also gives users the opportunity to get confidential advice and study tips through its Ask CellCgirl function.

When asked about this remarkable achievement, Managing Executive of Corporate Social Investment at Cell C, Suzette Van Der Merwe had this to say, “Cell C is very proud to have been acknowledged with this prestigious award and that the combined passion and efforts for CellCgirl in partnership with Arc Interactive have been recognised within such a short space of time.”

Arc Interactive, the digital agency behind the CellCgirl initiative, is not new to the world of CSI projects. Luke Goller, who is Managing Partner at Arc expressed excitement at having another one of the agency’s platforms recognised in such a short space of time, “ARC is really excited to be involved in an initiative that has such a wide impact on young females and the South African community at large. The recognition that CellCgirl has had in such a short space of time is testament to how necessary such a brand is and to how significant the Take a Girl Child to Work Day movement has been. We’re honoured to be a part of it.”

Cell C have been running their Take A Girl Child To Work Day project for over a decade and have been successfully helping girls all over South Africa to plan their careers by gaining insight into the world of work as well as the opportunities available to them. The initiative is looking to expand and offer online certifications to its users through the CellCgirl platform in 2019.
