Hospitality Review South Africa

The Marly, it's just magical

If you're familiar with the renowned sunset strip of Camps Bay beachfront, you will certainly know where The Promenade is. That's the spot where you will find The Marly, a luxurious 11-suite boutique hotel.

If I had to describe The Marly in two words, it would be exquisitely luxurious.

When you're planning a trip away, most people tend to do a bit of research beforehand - checking out the website, reading guest reviews, looking at pictures and more often than not, the little bit of homework you did beforehand goes to waste because when you get to your destination, it's not 100% what you had in mind. In my case The Marly was everything and more than what I had expected.

I simply say this because what I saw online is a mirrored reflection of what I got upon arrival - five-star quality and service!

Finding parking on the Camps Bay beach strip can be quite a mission, but parking for The Marly was just a blinking indicator away in The Promenade parking area. 1-2-3, I parked my car and before I knew it, the doors to reception had been opened and I was offered help to carry my bag. A warm welcome from the front desk and a quick check-in really impressed me. Because there are only 11 suites, the staff can really give you the extra attention to make your stay all the more worthwhile.

A friendly young lady by the name of Lauren was on duty at the front desk when I arrived, and she ushered me to my suite to what would be the beginning of a magical experience.

Fantasy world

You know those fantasy films when you enter into a new world - those bright lights, all-white surroundings, this was exactly what it felt like as I entered this spaciously sized and exquisitely decorated room. I was immediately drawn to the shimmering curtains, luring me to the veranda where I got a glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean. I then enjoyed a few complimentary beverages from the mini refreshment bar fridge - apparently each suite has one so you don't have to call for room service.

The great thing about the veranda is that it is spacious and you have your own private space as it's blocked off with artificial hedges from guests next door.

Although it was slightly overcast - Cape Town's weather is very unpredictable - I opted to take some time out and relax on the beachbed and enjoy the view. Just below me I could hear the sweet tunes being played at Umi Restaurant. Like The Marly, Umi falls under the portfolio of unique and vibrant hospitality venues offered by The Kove Collection. The likes of Paranga, Pepenero, La Belle, The Bungalow, The Alphen and 5 Rooms Restaurant all fall under The Kove Collection.

It was shortly time to freshen up before dinner... I entered the bathroom area only to discover a very tempting bathtub made for relaxing. Unfortunately, I never made use of the bathtub as I am more of a 'jump in the shower' guy. In the bathroom you'll find Charlotte Rhys toiletries ready to use. The hotel also offers a 'bath butler' service (at an extra cost) that furnishes guests with a specially drawn bath using essential oils. And out for dinner I went...

Upon returning, I was quite tired and certainly ready for bed; the bed had been prepared by the hotel staff: linen open, slippers set at the bedside... It was these finishing touches that sealed the deal for me. I was ready for one of the best sleeps I'd had in a long time in a comfortable king-sized bed with super soft linen that I just sunk into.

The Marly certainly gets both thumbs up from me and I would recommend it to anyone wanting some exquisitely luxurious leisure.
