The Writing Studio presents The Drama of Writing a Play

The Writing Studio will present 'The Drama of Writing a Play', an evening workshop taking place at the Waterfront Theatre School, Cape Town from 1-4 December from 6pm until 9pm, with scenes written during the workshop performed on Sunday 6 December 6 from noon until 4pm.
The Writing Studio presents The Drama of Writing a Play

Daniel Dercksen, who wrote, directed and produced 'The Beauty of Incomplete Things', independently in Cape Town and Johannesburg last year, takes writers through the process of writing and producing a play from inspiration to final curtain and the play's life beyond the stage.

It is a personal journey into the world of writing a play from the inside out and bringing it to life. The workshop is ideal for writers (and actors) who want to make a difference in the local theatre scene, produce their plays independently and cultivate the growth of new South African plays.

Writers will examine the raw material of drama, the art of the drama, what it takes to be a dramatist in South Africa and how to get a play on to the stage and festival circuit. During the workshop, the dramatists will look at how to find your story, writing the play from the inside out, allowing the characters to drive the action, writing dialogue that serves the story and writing a play that is alive on the page.

It also looks at the relationship between the dramatist and actors, and working with directors and producers to turn words into action. The practical workshop includes extensive notes and writers will write a scene from their play.
