In many parts of the world, press freedom is still undermined or violated. Every day thousands of reporters put their lives in danger to report on conflicts, humanitarian disasters or simply to tell human stories that are often taken for granted. The Lorenzo Natali Prize for Journalism recognises Europe's conviction that freedom of expression, democracy, human rights and development are inextricably linked.

Anas has won several awards in investigative journalism both in Ghana and outside Ghana and this is not the first time he has been nominated for the Lorenzo Natali Prize.

Through this prize, the EC aims to recognise and reward journalists reporting in often challenging circumstances, celebrating the ways in which journalism can bring about positive change, the inspiration for development, and the engine for democracy and human rights.

Winners in each category will be announced at the awards ceremony, hosted by EC commissioner, Andris Piebalgs, on Thursday, 8 December 2011 in Brussels.
