Sasria gives back on Career Day with the Adopt a School Foundation

Mogale City, Gauteng. Special Risk insurance purveyors Sasria have collaborated with notable organizations such as Sci-BONO, Price Waterhouse Coopers, Norton Rose and Wetpaint Advertising in order to bring a special Career Day initiative to Lodrile Secondary School in Mogale City, Gauteng. Lodrile Secondary School is an economically disadvantaged government-established institution which is currently being run and funded under the auspices of the Adopt a School Foundation, a privately-funded charitable organization established by a number of the board members of Sasria. Most notably, Cyril Ramaphosa serves on the Adopt a School Foundation board.

Despite its dire economic hardships, Lodrile Secondary School boasts a consistently impressive Matric pass rate of 97% for several consecutive years. The determination of these learners to apply themselves to their studies in order to further their education and their careers was the primary motivator for their selection by Sasria in being the recipients of this initiative. Representative speakers from each organization collaborating on the effort were divided into different subject groups that gave workshops to the students throughout the day. Each subject group was organized so as to align the professional field represented by the speaker with its corresponding high school subject, such as Science, Math, Computer Science, Creative Writing and Design.

These workshops enabled students to better concretize and tangibly translate the subjects they study at school with real-world, viable career opportunities and professional qualifications. This resulted in students being even more motivated to apply themselves to their studies and strive to achieve credible pass rates.

The Adopt a School Foundation appeals both private individuals and organizations in its on-going effort to raise funding and awareness around economically disadvantaged government schools in South Africa. Not only does the foundation raise funds for the development of the schools they adopt, but they also foster sustainable, long-term commitments towards these schools, ensuring their on-going infrastructural support and proper management.
