100 young achievers from 26 African countries are part of the 2018 list which was launched in 2016 and in its third year, features young politicians, activists, entrepreneurs, entertainers, digital influencers, philanthropists and athletes across 10 distinct categories. These trailblazers are lauded for promoting the positive image of Africa across the globe.
According to the Awards organisers, notable among the 2018 honorees are Uganda’s Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu (Bobi Wine); Togo’s Farida Bemba Nabourema; Egypt’s Mohamed Salah; Nigeria’s Davido; Guinea’s ABD Traore; Kenya’s Xtian Dela; South Africa’s Cassper Nyovest and Tanzania’s Alikiba.
Youngest duos on the list include Musician Nasty C from South Africa and Nigeria’s Social Entrepreneur, Wadi Ben-Hirki at 21 years.
Nigeria, South Africa, Ghana & Tanzania all lead the list with 20, 17, 12 and eight representatives respectively. The full list is available here.

“Too often, we hear about the doom and gloom of the African continent and its youth, so it is wonderful that there is a movement that highlights entrepreneurs and leaders on the continent, moving us forward into a narrative of excellence and innovation,” said Chauke.
“Being part of only two South Africans in the business category of influential young people in Africa is humbling. I do however wish that the business category had an even stronger representation, understanding the dire need and challenges, particularly in my country where youth unemployment is at a staggering 47%!”
More of South Africa’s cream of the crop who made the list in other categories include politician and scholar, Dr Mbuyiseni Ndlozi; member of the KZN legislature, Mbali Ntuli in the Law and Governance category; alongside, medical officer Dr Sandile Kubheka in the Science and Technology category; and philanthropist, Nomzamo Mbatha in the Lifestyle category.
“Not only is it amazing to be on the list of Africa’s best, but I’m more moved by the fact that the current list features a record 90 new entrants and 43 females. Young Africans are positively positioning the image of Africa on the global stage and it goes beyond just rhetoric, but it is supported by great businesses and a sustainable ecosystem that adds to much needed innovation and job creation on our continent,” added Chauke.
The list was compiled in partnership with Avance Media, mynaijanaira.com and Made Marketing Group and presents an opportunity for young Africans to stay committed to their individual causes and continue to blaze trails across their various fields.
