Attending the Preparation for Tertiary Accounting short course presented through Continuing Education at University of Pretoria (CE at UP), these students geared up to develop their potential, up-skill and make the best of their studies that lie ahead.

Currently in its fifth year of enrollment, this course bridges the gap for first-year students to adjust to the pace of their first semester at University, and is specifically aimed at students who did not necessarily have Accounting in matric.

According to Mrs Corlia Joynt, course leader and lecturer in the Department of Accounting at the University, the four-day course is structured around students' current mathematical and accounting abilities and builds on their confidence in order to achieve better results going forward in their studies.

The introduction to the course was greeted with a lot of excitement, but also with a sense of seriousness with many students remarking "I am not sure what to expect", "I am looking forward to get a head start on my studies" or "I am aiming for great marks".

"At the start of something new, we are all a bit confused or unsure. We don't necessarily know where to go or whether we are going in the right direction. Sometimes we need a map to show us the way and find our direction," Mrs Joynt stated.

"The Preparation for Tertiary Accounting course provides a map for first-year students to find their way in Accounting."

"By doing this course, you invest your time and money in achieving something much better than you could have ever imagined," she encouraged the eager young minds.

CE at UP presents the course at the beginning of each year and students enrollments have grown exponentially with each year's intake. The first day of the course starts off with a test of students' abilities and knowledge and is then measured against their progress and insights by the end of the course.

Congratulations to all these willing and bright students on taking the first steps to make a success of your studies and future careers. Through your commitment to lifelong learning you have made an early investment in your professional development and progress towards practical application in the workplace.
