Resident Evil: Retribution

Virtual reality becomes explosive virtual fiction in Resident Evil: Retribution, a visceral ballet of action, sound, image and visual effects. This is extreme entertainment at its best, exploring the art of 3D cinema where every frame is masterfully and skilfully crafted by writer and director Paul WS Anderson, an extraordinary visionary who sets the imagination on fire.

Some film purists will argue that the film is a mindless video game in action, but it offers much, much more than any video game ever could.

Perfectly scripted and plotted

You don't even have to a Resident Evil fundi to understand what happens; perfectly scripted and plotted with meticulous detail, the narrative plunges you into an unimaginable world in which there are no rules and fewer limitations - a world in which extreme excess triumphs. Once the plot jolts into action and you are strapped in emotionally and physically, it's like a runaway train racing mercilessly to an inevitable ending where the logic of suspended disbelief is twisted into a surprising revelation. This is what storytelling is all about; allowing access to a world in which anything is possible and everything does indeed happen.

Visceral action

It's all about visceral action and virtual characters stripped of their humanity, fighting the virus of technology and progress; it's mankind pitted against computers and the vulnerability of our software combatting cold and calculated hardware.

If you are looking for the cinematic experience of a lifetime, bungee jumping into an imaginative world in which creative energy rules, make sure to buckle up for this fast-and-furious adventure.

It aims to entertain, but also manages to create an awareness of the future of cinema and film on the big screen with its 7.1 sound system, which could never be duplicated, only upgraded.

It's an ideal film to break away from reality and logic, and download stress, allowing your hard drive to work at terabyte speed to consume the overwhelming and totally sensuous experience.

Behind the scenes

From its breathtaking opening sequence to its shocking panoramic conclusion, Resident Evil: Retribution dazzles audiences with a stunning combination of the unique action sequences that have made the franchise a global hit and some new and unexpected twists. Director, writer and producer Paul WS Anderson has imagined a terrifying future world devastated by an unthinkable plague and realized in state-of-the-art 3D.

Through four previous outings, the Resident Evil saga has taken audiences around the world and deep inside the mysterious Umbrella Corporation, but never before on such a vast scale. "Resident Evil has always been a global franchise," said Anderson. "I don't mean just in the way it's shot, but also in the locations. In the first movie, it was the claustrophobia of the Hive; in the second, the night-time streets of Raccoon City. The third movie moved to the desert and the fourth movie had post-apocalyptic Los Angeles burning to a crisp. This time we've made what is effectively a road movie, because we go from one country to another to another in a novel way."
