Assistant Communication Officer at Moses Kotane Local Municipality

I have worked for a period of a year at UNISA as a student assistant responsible for application, registration and tutorial classes, the contract ended in march 2015. Currently i am employed at the local goverment,at Moses Kotane Local Municipality as an assistant communication officer from August 2015.
My key perfomance areas at Moses Kotane is to position the Municipality, create a reputable image, communicate newsworthy events/projects. I coordinate events with both provincial, and national sector departments through events planning on behalf of the Municipality. During my time here I was able to be part of the officials who developed the communication policy of the Municipality for the first time in 15 years. I am also responsible for the marketing site through branding management at events/imbizos, Mayoral budget speeches and other council seatings. I generate the website content by taking pictures and writing article at events, also the social media content. The social media presence of our Municipality is high due to the efforts of our collective team. I have leaned a lot and have extensive experience in communications.
-Key Tasks
• Internal communication (serve as a link between management and employees regarding all matters that need to be communicated tos employees)
• External communication (establishing and maintaining good relations with relevant stakeholders e.g. media houses, suppliers and the community)
• Draft articles for Internal Newsletter
• Updating (participating in various activities i.e. public participation, awareness campaigns, exhibitions) and monitoring the municipal website and social media platforms e.g. Facebook.
• Coordination of media coverage on Municipal events e.g. Mayor's Budget speech interviews and advertisement.
• Assisting with the publishing of the newsletter and the newspaper.
• Identifying marketing opportunities and exploiting them.
• Brand Management
• Assisting with the developmental of the communication policy, integrated marketing & communication strategy and the corporate calendar.
• Representing the Municipality at communications forum (Local and District)
