Show profile Hide profileI have been involved in the South African Higher Educational and Further Educational environment since 2007 - in the capacity of lecturer, program designer and curriculum developer, and assessor/moderator. For the past 3 years I have been specializing in academic management and quality assurance. A large part of my duties were focussed on both student and staff support, development, training and programme design.
Before starting my career in Higher Education locally, I gained experience of global educational methodologies. I worked both in South Korea and the ROC in schools / governmental educational institutes whose teaching methodologies and curricula were based on American and UK models. Besides these opportunities abroad, I gained experience of the local FET system while being involved with ACM COPA Cape Town - where we followed a teaching model and curriculum from the ACM institute in the UK.
Since 2014, I have been employed initially as the Academic Administrator and later promoted to act as the Academic Quality Assurance Manager at a Private Multimedia College of Higher Education. I am part of a small management team, and had to oversee all academic administrative duties of the college; update the student management and online learning systems (Moodle-based); develop and update new courses, modules, and curricula. I also oversee and assess the lecturing and support staff including conducting bi-annual KPI reports; and facilitate and oversee successful student- parent - lecturer communication. Being a rather small staff, I also found myself organizing quite a few college functions and student cultural activities, and represented the College at various Industry events and participated in career expo's.
As part of this position, I had to update and amend the college's existing policies as to keep their status of accredited HE institute. I specifically created and implemented more realistic and practical policies on academic procedures, assessment procedures, online learning, student support policies, lecturer development and training. I am happy to say that my involvement in this regard proved to assist greatly in bettering the overall structure, student communication and support, and academic quality of the college. I currently moderate all the course modules and assessments; project-manage new programmes to be submitted on the HEQC for registration; manage the NLRD-student submission process; oversee and administer the college's RPL and CAT processes; and ensure that the all the academic operations of the College complies with the regulations and policies of the South African governmental and Quality Assurance Bodies.
To elaborate my formal education: I hold a degree in BA (Music with Psychology) and completed post-graduate studies in Psychology (Honours); and a Masters degree in Philosophy (Music Technology). More recently, I have been completing 2 Diplomas from the Shaw online learning academy - Social Media Management and Online reputation, and Web Design and Development. Having a lifelong passion for people-development, I completed courses in the StrenghsFinder and Enneagram personality programs, and has experience of coaching in this regard.
