Public Relations Practitioner with a Diploma in Media Studies and specializing in PR
Show profile Hide profileMy name is Palesa Moru and I recently completed my diploma in Media Practices, with a top major in Public Relations at Boston Media House, Sandton Campus.
During my academic period from 2014 till 2016, I have acquired knowledge in the following fields, Public Relations, Journalism, Digital Marketing, Media law, Sound Engineering, and Radio, which were majors I did in my second year, in the last year of my studying I also acquired knowledge in the fields of Brand Management, Media Planning, Professional Skills, Creativity and my major Public Relations 3, at Boston Media House.
I have a great passion for PR in all forms, and a great interest in Digital Marketing. I also bring these skills to the table, good communication skills, good writing skills I can easily come up with creative ideas when working on a project. I enjoy working with different people and learning new things from people, which makes me a good team player. I have an interest in social media, I work well under pressure which is a good ability, seeing how busy the field of media can get. I have good time management skills and I always stick to a schedule. I can speak three South African languages, which are Sesotho, IsiZulu and Afrikaans. I am always open to learning new things and I grab every opportunity as a chance to learn and I consider mistakes to be learning curves. I have leadership skills as I was part of Vision Kids, a youth program that helps youth to be a better versions of themselves. I also bring to the table strong computer proficiencies in MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
In my final year of studying Public Relations, I was required to compile a PR portfolio for a company that was going to be listed on the JSE and by doing that I can put together a complete portfolio that included a Media Relations Strategy, writing of a Press Release, Employee Communication Plan, House Journal, Website, Plan of Events, Crisis Communication Policy, and writing of a Sponsorship letter.
In terms of work experience I volunteered at the Earth Day Expo '16, were I learned how to plan an exhibition from the paperwork planning to ground work, pre-event and post-event. I recently completed part the WIL (Work Integrated Learning) program at the SABC and placed at METRO FM in the marketing department, where I learnt a lot of PR, Marketing, Event Management and Radio Programming for the duration of 6 months.
I worked on a charity campaign called Inspire 22 on behalf of Boston Media House, which was to a CSI assessment, but it was more than a charity campaign to me as I have a passion for giving back to the community.
