Show profile Hide profileAs a Financial Accountant by profession I joined Momentum in March 2015 as a Fund Accountant. One of the services rendered by Momentum entails Retirement Fund Administration, this department services standalone pension and provident funds for a variety of companies.
My role requires me to prepare, analyse, verify and disseminate critical reporting coupled with the responsibility of a portfolio of clients. The main focus of my role is the completion of Annual Financial Statements (AFS), pension fund accounting and ensuring audits run smoothly. It also entails handling all day to day queries, issues related to processes and the resolution thereof from actuaries, client Financial Managers and various other teams within the business. Monitoring five bank accounts per fund to ensure that the appropriate funding levels are maintained is also part of my responsibility.
I am responsible for the review and timeous preparation of the monthly bank reconciliations, cash flows and AFS as well as authorising all investments, disinvestments and local and foreign payments. This involves disinvesting/ investing when necessary (as per the mandate) to ensure there is sufficient money in the bank account to cover expenses and benefits and investing additional monies to ensure clients reap maximum interest.
I have demonstrated strong analytical and organisational skills in my role whereby I prioritise my work and have a proven track record of never missing a deadline, had any write-offs linked to me or any audit over-runs on my audits.
Prior to joining Momentum I was employed as a Financial/Fund Accountant at Old Mutual where I was responsible for a portfolio of clients which consisted of six clients ranging from R4.2 million in assets with 600 members to R100 million in assets with 3000 members. I am fortunate as at Old Mutual I was exposed to various areas within the finance which enabled me to build key relationships with senior management. A key skill I acquired in my role is the ability to successfully implement and manage new processes and procedures in order to make current ones more efficient and pragmatic. I enjoyed the challenge of working with the wider accounting team to ensure a productive workflow and developed excellent communication skills.
My decision to move to Momentum was a lateral move, however I am looking for something more challenging and would like to gain more experience in finance within other sectors of the financial industry. I am committed and passionate about what I do and continuously driven to strive to do my utmost in any situation I am faced with. I will bring to your organisation specialised experience, attention to detail, a natural aptitude for analysing numbers and a commitment to developing a positive team environment.
